If you've never seen an orange tree, and you're walking along, and you see a tree you've never seen before with oranges growing on it, even if you're not the sharpest Crayon in the box (i.e. Kerry supporter), you're going to know it's an orange tree. To paraphrase Jesus himself, you can know what a tree is by the fruit it bears. Well, the United Nations, planted so long ago, rooted now in almost every country in the world, is bearing fruit.

The most recent rotten apple to fall off the tree is the Oil-For-Food SCAM. Kofi & Co (and it's quite a company, if I may say so, including everyone from his own son to high ranking officials of foreign governments, even heads of state in some cases) have done themselves more harm than they've done their intended victim - the U.S.A. - this time.

It's our own fault, really; as has been the case at other critical points in history, the good ole U.S. has been napping. Not only napping, but dreaming. We dreamed that we were the gleaming Angel of Democracy. We dreamed we were the darlings of the world, known for our kindness, our generosity, our love of liberty. We dreamed we were universally loved, that our values and our way of life were the aspiration of every backwater third-world country and the ideal of every one of our "protégées", the adorable little European countries who were so cute, trying to be like us adults.

Unfortunately, it seems to take a rather large body count to wake us up; Pearl Harbor in 1941, Twin Towers in 2001. Worse, we wake up to find that the people we thought would watch over us while we slept, those lovers of ours, have used the time instead to collude with our enemies, lusting after foreign trade at any cost, with any government, betraying us for market share.

Who or what's to blame? Globalization, you say? My, you're astute! With the IMF (International Monetary Fund), the G-8, The European Union, and a plethora of other players all vying for control of the development and future landscape of world markets, and with so much speculative money at risk, is it any surprise that a current political map of the globe looks like a game of RISK that's lasted for about three months?

There - another gentle nudge. Don't Make me smack you with a fish. Start flappin'
